Apprenticeship NVQ Level 2

Our City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 qualification is the main starting point for a diverse and long lasting career in the hairdressing industry. This qualification introduces learners to the basics of client consultations, shampooing, blow drying colouring, cutting, perming and presenting a finished look.

We offer flexible training routes with training and assessment at our Manchester City Centre or Oldham Town Centre Training Schools or within your salon. Our industry experienced, highly trained staff deliver background knowledge theory sessions, practical training sessions and 1:1 tutorial support where required. We tailor our course delivery to the individual needs of the learner and employer.

The qualification is split into ‘units’ which are worth a number of ‘credits’. To achieve the full level 2 qualification you must achieve a total of 54 credits. There are additional credits awarded for the achievement of Key/Functional Skills, 5 credits for Communication and 5 credits for Application of Number. Total number of credits required – 64.

The level 2 framework is made up of the following units:

Mandatory Units – All units to be completed

• Make sure your own actions reduce risks to Health & Safety (4 credits)
• Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation (5 credits)
• Advise and consult with clients (4 credits)
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp (4 credits)
• Change hair colour (11 credits)
• Style and finish hair (6 credits)
• Set and dress hair (6 credits)
• Cut hair using basic techniques (8 credits)

Optional Units – 1 optional unit to be chosen

• Fulfil salon reception duties (3 credits)
• Promote additional products or services to clients (6 credits)
• Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work (3 credits)
• Plait and twist hair (4 credits)
• Perm and neutralise hair (8 credits)
• Attach hair to enhance a style (3 credits)

(Additional optional units may be taken if desired)

Duration: Complete at your own speed up to 24 months
