About MichaelJohn Training Schools

Manchester First Floor Training Academy

Michaeljohn Training School was set up in 1981 through the success of Michaeljohn Salons across Stockport. From one small site in Hazel Grove, we have now expanded to two large training sites in Manchester City Centre and Oldham town centre, both with multiple training salons, and are now considered to be the largest sole provider of hairdressing training across Greater Manchester.

MJTS offers flexible training routes to complete a City & Guilds Hairdressing NVQ to level 2 (foundation) or level 3 (advanced). Our industry experienced, highly trained staff deliver background knowledge theory sessions, practical  training sessions and 1:1 tutorial support where required.

Michaeljohn Manchester Ground Floor Salon

MJTS has a client base of around 200 salons across the Greater Manchester area and has an average student base of  between 220 to 300 apprentice hairdressers.

We can also deliver in-salon training and assessment where travel to the Training School is difficult. Please contact our Recruitment department on 0161 834 1095 for more information.

Michaeljohn:Oldham

Michaeljohn Oldham

Michaeljohn Training opened our second Training School in July 2008, originally using the upstairs of a busy hairdressing salon. Our second site has now grown to use the entire building following a complete refurbishment starting in December 2009.

Based in the heart of Oldham town centre on Union Street, Michaeljohn:Oldham offers two practical training salons, a background knowledge delivery room and a lower ground floor quiet area for learners to work on their assignments or receive 1:1 support with their assessors.

Ofsted Inspection and Self-Assessment

Like all government funded provision we are subject to regular inspections by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED). Periodically a team of inspectors will visit the Training School to observe lessions, review our systems, speak with staff, learners, employers and stakeholders to gauge how well we are performing against the Common Inspection Framework (2009). Ofsted use a simple grading system of 1 for outstanding, 2 for good, 3 for satisfactory and 4 for poor.

At our last inspection by the Adult Learning Inspectorate in November 2006 we were graded at 2 (good) for all aspects of our provision.

We see continuous improvement as an essential tool to ensure that we continue to provide the highest quality learning experience that responds to the needs of learners, their parents, the hairdressing industry and the wider community. We undertake comprehensive monthly analysis to benchmark our performance against targets, both internally and against targets/priorities set by our city, region and national Government. This evaluation of our performance culminates into our annual Self-Assessment Report within which we review our performance against the criteria set in the Common Inspection Framework (2009).
